How Do You Deal With Telemarketers?
by Outaservice injw's at your door are a nuisance, but so are telemarketers on the phone.

First sport a fancy accent, then tell them you are the homeowner's Nanny and then make up some story about an exotic trip the homeowners went on and go on and on about the details...like what a good time they must be haveing and all the work you're left to do, etc. Just don't give them a chance to talk..they'll eventually hang up! Works almost every time!

Traits of Abusive Churches and Toxic Faith Systems
by Richie inan exhaustive study has been done on the behavior of cult groups - in several books about "cults", they enumerated 21 major points where you can identify the traits of a cult-like organization.
bear in mind that the authors did not target jehovah's witnesses as a specific group at all, which made it all the more frightening!
but this dissertation generalized all cult-groups existing in the world.... 1. control-oriented, arrogantly assertive, power-posturing leadership.. 2. authoritarian and legalistic with dictatorial, dogmatic doctrines that are proclaimed to be "the truth".. 3. claims of being the channel of communication between god and humankind; having unique knowledge that makes them special.

Richie,
I could relate. Whenever I visit the Congregation my kids go to when they are visiting their Dad (a JW)to see my son give his little talk, I am treated like I have been DF'd, even though I havn't been...not even publicly reprooved. Nobody talks to me. I divorced him because of the abuse, but they treat him like he's father of the year, and an example of a true christian. My sweet children are caught in the middle. Even though I have legal custody of them, I find it very difficult and I try not to hurt them my revealing my true feelings about the WTS. -

Trevor,
It's nice to know I wasn't the only one denied a normal childhood. I don't blame my parents, though. I feel they did the best they could and just didn't know any better. I was the only girl. I was was not allowed to associate with "wordly" friends, and the friends at the kingdom hall were also scrutinized by my folks, especially if they weren't very spiritual. I feel that I am getting to know myself all over again....this time I get to make the choices. I was never encouraged to attend college, so that's something I would love to do. It's too bad I wasn't allowed to do it when I was younger, but I guess it's never to late to start. When I think about it..it's kind of exciting to know there is so much out there I have yet to discover! -

I lived in Utah for 15 years...the suicide rate is quite high there too. My ex-mother-in-law (a JW) committed suicide there. She was one of the biggest loss in my life! It's such a tragedy when they can't ask for help.
